OCKE MAN
weit – höher – am reichsten

Mika Hannula: Let’s start with an easy one: why space? What’s so interesting with space as a wide huge unknown above us?

fff: It opens the perspective and offers a lot of space for one’s own thoughts and ideas without restrictions: “Space would not be space without a race.” However, it is also all about terrestrial space and a location for presentation. This has always been important to us.

But then again, well, it seems accepted and cool for rich people and countries to burn billions of euros to go there.

And come to think about it, in fact, that’s exactly why we are doing this project. Personally, I don’t think there is anything interesting about space. But humanity seems to think the saving is out there!

MH: Yes but: what’s out there – and what’s in it for you? Why this fascination, why now?

fff: In space there’s probably everything or nothing, but there’s nothing in it for us. We think there’s a lot of acute problems we must fix on earth before trying to go into space.

MH: What about the distance, or to be precise, the mental distance from Berlin to Bayern? What’s different, what is same with the exhibitions there and then and here and now?

fff: The main objects and theme are the same, but we go more into the political space and arguments.

More precisely, many things the same but in this one we have increased in size  ..”a huge step” in the size of the object  “rocket” that is going to be exhibited as the theme demands this action, also showing different angels of the theme through youth and experience! (Guest artists)

The physical preconditions of the exhibition venue always have an impact on our work. You may call it site-specific although it is about a space inside. The infrastructure of art is of minor importance to me. Maybe more curiousness and interest can be expected in Nuremberg.

MH: In Berlin, purely accidentally, I heard a visitor wondering about this: Three middle-aged men preoccupied with this particular theme – are they having a mid-life crisis? True or blue?

fff: Could be so, think this guy may be right!

Or, to put it into a social-political context and contrast, Ich glaube das Berliner Publikum hat etwas Schwierigkeiten Humor.

But that said, what remains is this: Getting old is not a bad thing and you can’t avoid it.

MH: But yes, what if it was a woman who said it? And what’s this with the idea of humor? What’s so funny with space age – is it not, on the contrary, a rather morbid, almost dystopic theme nowadays?

fff: Hah, if so, we claim that then she didn’t take her time to try to understand our project.

But then again, we are truly tolerant people, everybody is entitled to their opinion. Age or gender is no issue for us. You agree with us that space age is a morbid and dystopic theme and a way to face it is with humor.

MH: What’s the role or fascination with pop songs and pop culture to you – what’s its role in your work?

fff: Just like sports, Pop Culture, especially for adolescents, can play an important role in the development of one’s own personality and in finding one’s one way ahead. What’s important here again is the poetic and leaving space for one’s own thoughts. Pop Culture continues to be a significant source of energy. Our ideas often stem from there or from the everyday.

Also it is important to pay attention how pop songs and culture are everywhere and all the time and everyday life is the main source of our work.

Think everyday need regarding music, not that much about pop culture – As soon as you think you are dealing with “pop culture” you are out, think it has the same role as creativity …don’t think and stress over this question !

MH: This reminds me of a group in the early 90’s called The Pop Will Eat Itself, obviously referring to the cannibalistic notion of buy, play & throw away acts of so-called culture. To put the question in another way: where’s the beat, and the bounce in your current work?

fff: The beat is the dialogue between the objects in the whole exhibition/installation and the bounce is the physical and mental experience of the work. The beat is in the stomach and the bounce is in the head.

MH: What about sports? Or to phrase it from another point of view: which one is more fun – Nordic walking or staring at the sky?

fff: Very important things, as mentioned before. As an activity, however, it’s also a societal phenomenon; often as a mirror of society.

Truth be told, at any costs, thus: at the moment staring at the sky.

Whaaat? I was staring at the sky the hole time we where walking!

MH: Ok, if it says something, in comparison, about our societies, what is that you want to say or state by bringing together art and sports, play and pleasure?

fff: Like in professional sports playing and having fun is not allowed in high culture. We think playing is the driving force in the society and there should not be any age limit for that.

MH: Then, finally, two most important question – and please answer them three times, each and every one of the fff crew. If Elton John would come to your opening, what would you ask him to sing?

fff: Crocodile Rock!; Living on a prayer; Moomintroll’s song (Mumintrollets visa)

MH: And another speculative question – after the opening, after the great party and a long long night, you all wake up in a huge bed next to Elon Musk – what has happened?

fff: I must have been desperate and needed someone to tell me -we are going to make it!; We had a blast!; If it had been Elton John, I would have discussed soccer or maybe music all night. Elon Musk? He probably roofied our beers. I believe he likes our art. However, that would be an incredibly gruesome nightmare!

Ein Projekt von finnfemfel mit Gästen:
Cheunhui Tang (CN), Dan Holm (FIN), Sam Lerviks (FIN), Arne Braun (FIN)

fff: Es öffnet die Perspektive und gibt viel Raum für eigene Gedanken und Ideen ohne Restriktionen: “Space would not be space without a race”.

fff: Wie zuvor bereits erwähnt, sehr wichtig.

fff: Crocodile Rock!; Living on a prayer; Mumintroll’s song (Mumintrollets visa)
